Choosing a Bed for Children

Babies are not considered to have fully completed their bone development when they are born, they complete a significant portion of their development during sleep, where they spend most of their day. Their bone structure is still in a cartilaginous form, so they need healthy beds that support their bodies and development in order for their development to progress healthily. In later years, children's beds should be chosen carefully in order to protect their spine and skin health, to ensure that they sleep regularly and wake up feeling well-slept. What should be considered when choosing a bed for your baby to complete their healthy development? Which is the best baby bed? What are the features that a bed should have for children to sleep healthily and wake up refreshed? And what should be the dimensions of children's beds?

How should a newborn baby bed be chosen and what should be taken into consideration?

The skin structures of newborn babies are quite sensitive and thin compared to normal human skin, and their bone and muscle structures have also completed their development. For this reason, although we are used to synthetic and chemical substances, the skin of babies and children is not ready for this. And starting from the outer fabric, the materials used inside should not contain synthetic substances or should be used with materials that have been approved for baby use. Important issues to consider when buying a newborn bed;

  • Fabric, the fabric of the newborn bed should be clean, free of synthetic and chemical substances and breathable. Fabrics containing synthetic substances can cause allergic reactions and diseases on your baby's skin. With its breathable feature, the fabric dries quickly in case of wetness and does not allow bacterial formation.
  • The size of the bed, when choosing a baby bed, you should choose a bed that is suitable for your baby's height and weight, not the size of the base or bedstead. Choosing large beds with the idea that they will be used for many years may not meet your baby's needs because baby beds and larger children's beds have different sizes, degrees of hardness and layers used in them.
  • It is recommended that the firmness level of the newborn bed should be supportive and slightly firmer than medium firmness, in line with the ergonomics of newborn beds. Because the baby's bone and muscle structure have not yet hardened, if the bed takes the baby's sleeping shape, there may be disorders in bone development and it may cause disorders such as scoliosis. The bed should provide support by not taking the baby's sleeping shape completely.
  • Breathable mattress layers, all baby mattresses must be breathable because if there is no air permeability in the mattress layers, in case of moisture, bacteria, mites, mold, fungi etc. can establish a living space in the mattress and cause allergic reactions in your baby. Especially natural baby mattresses are recommended for breathable mattress layers.
  • Mattress care and baby mattresses should be easy to clean. Washable mattresses with covers or natural mattresses that do not need to be washed and can clean themselves when ventilated should be preferred.
  • How to Choose a Bed for Children?

    Choosing the right bed for children is an important and researchable topic. During childhood, the body develops rapidly, brain and motor development accelerates, and mobility increases. Since your child's physical needs also become clear, you need to choose a bed model that will provide a solution to sleep problems, for example, if you have a sweaty child, you need to provide a solution to this problem and ensure that they wake up rested by sleeping uninterruptedly so that they can be happy and active during the day.

    Best kids bed What are its features?

    • The bed should be suitable for your child's age. While baby beds are a bit harder and thinner than standard, children's beds should be medium hard and thicker. Since children's bone development is complete, overly hard beds can prevent them from sleeping comfortably and uninterrupted, and since their weight will increase over time, thin beds can cause your child to touch the base during sleep.
  • The bed should be suitable for your child's height and your child's head, arms and feet should not protrude.
    • The fabric of the bed should be suitable for children's use. The fabric should not contain synthetic or harmful chemical content. At the same time, the fabric should have high air permeability.
  • Choosing a bed that suits your child's needs, if you have a sweaty child, you can choose beds that are not only made of sponge but also contain natural materials such as latex, horsehair, wool, cotton, and you can ensure that they sleep comfortably. Or if you have a child who does not want to sleep in their own bed and has a restless day when they sleep, the hardness level of their bed is not suitable for their wishes, you can choose their bed according to the hardness level of the place they like to sleep. There are many child bed options. Natural child beds, sponge child beds or spring child beds, the most common bed model is generally springless natural content beds.
  • The importance of the materials used in the bed is that they should be clean and suitable for child use. They should provide support for the spine and be breathable. Mattresses that are not air permeable during sleep cannot dry when wet due to sweating or other means, and due to humidity, mold, fungus, and bacteria can grow and cause your child to experience skin and respiratory tract disorders. The most appropriate mattress materials for children's beds are those with natural and clean content.
  • Children's beds should be easy to clean. Washable covers can be preferred or beds made of natural layers that can be ventilated and cleaned without the need for washing will ensure that children sleep long and healthily.
